Wolbrom city


Wolbrom is a town located in Wyżyna Krakowsko - Częstochowska (the Upland Region of Poland stretching between Cracow and Częstochowa), colloquially called "Jura". The residents of this area cordially welcome all the people, who want to visit our region.

The Wolbrom commune is located within 70 km distance from Katowice, 40 km from Cracow and 100 km from Kielce. Wolbrom is placed at the crossroads of a number of communication routes. As regards the vehicle transport, there are convenient connections between the town and the key city centres and economic areas of the southern part of Poland. There are fast road connections with the International Airport in Balice (approx. 40 km) and the International Airport in Pyrzowice (65 km). The commune includes 26 villages and the town of Wolbrom.

The town and the commune of Wolbrom is a local agricultural, industrial and trade centre. The beginnings of industry in the area of Wolbrom date back to the year 1908. Initially, it was mainly iron and metal industry, but already in the year 1912 it was transformed into rubber industry. Since that time until today Wolbrom has been connected with rubber industry. Thus, the main branches of economy in the area of the town and the commune constitute a rapidly developing rubber industry with tradition of nearly 100 years. The industry here also comprises production of car subassemblies, electrical elements and installations and steel semi-finished products. Also private trade and food processing develop very well.

 

In the area of the commune a number of associations and unions operate, for example the Polish Diabetes Association, the Polish Association for Mentally Retarded People, the Social and Cultural Association of Wolbrom, the Local Social Assistance Centre. Children from the area attend 15 primary schools, 3 kindergartens, whereas teenagers attend 7 lower secondary schools and the Secondary Schools' Complex. There is also a Rehabilitation and Education Centre operating in the town for mentally retarded children and young people.

Wolbrom also constitutes a rich sports and recreation centre: the Wolbrom lake of the area of 20 ha (an excellent fishing place), a complex of swimming-pools, sports stadium.
